Durban: RBAA Winners 2017

Winners of the 2017 Regional Business Achiever Awards (RBAA)

Thursday 29th June 2017 was a night of honouring excellence and true leadership at the Regional Business Achiever Awards (RBAA), hosted by the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWASA), Durban branch at the internationally acclaimed Durban International Convention Centre.

The Regional Business Achiever Awards are hosted annually to recognize women leaders across five categories including Professional, Government, Emerging Entrepreneur, Social Entrepreneur and Entrepreneur. The evening highlighted 15 finalists with winners announced for each category.

Dr. Judy Dlamini

The guest of honour was Dr. Judy Dlamini, the founder and executive Chairman of the Mbekani Group.  Dr. Dlamini shared, "It is clear that we need men if we hope to achieve gender equality in our lifetime. It begins with celebrating successful men. Men are called to be activists alongside women by committing to specific targets within a timeline.  It is important to highlight progressive men for others to emulate."

The winners for the entrepreneur categories are as follows; Tanya Price-Carr winner of the Social Entrepreneur category, is the Branch Manager of The Clothing Bank. The NPO was established in 2010 and has grown to 5 branches across South Africa inspiring, empowering and up-skilling unemployed mothers and fathers through a holistic learn and earn programme.

Premi Subramany

Premi Subramany, winner of the Entrepreneur category, is the 100% shareholder and Managing Director of Chemsol Adhesives, founded in 1995. Chemsol Adhesives engages in the design, manufacture, supply and training of industrial chemicals such as solvents, adhesives, detergents, stains and dyes.

The Emerging Entrepreneur winner is Patricia Schrӧder, the Founder and Managing Director of Reclite SA (Pty) Ltd, an award-winning business with a niche offering of lighting, battery and electronic waste management. Reclite offers a nationwide footprint with branches across three provinces.

Xoliswa Hlongwane

The winner of the Government Category is Xoliswa Hlongwane, the current Deputy Head within the eThekwini Municipality Audit and Risk Advisory Services Unit. Xoliswa has been with the Municipality since September 2014 and is a qualified Chartered Accountant by profession. 

Lesa Bradshaw, the Professional Category winner, is a Founding Member and Managing Partner of Bradshaw Le Roux Consulting, a group of recruitment and assessment specialists and disability integration consultants. Bradshaw Le Roux offers strategic and operational support in terms of Disability Recruitment, Integration and Development.

These women have shifted policies, turned business models on their heads, empowered women at grassroots level and brought stability and growth to the business community of Durban. BWASA continually aims to ensure women are offered the platform to share their stories, engage with the business sector, grow their businesses and ultimately be honoured for the work that they do courageously.
