45 Years of Advancing Women in Business & Leadership

The Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWASA) is the country’s foremost non-profit member association dedicated to advancing women in business and leadership.

Founded in 1980 and recognized by the South African government and global entities like UN Women, we represent a powerful and growing network across Gauteng, Westrrn Cape – Cape Town, Limpopo – Polokwane and Eastern Cape – Gqeberha. Our membership spans individual women, women-owned businesses, and corporate partners, all united by a shared mission: to champion gender equality, economic inclusion, and sustainable growth.

BWASA is more than an organisation—we are a movement. As a trusted advocate and strategic partner, we equip women with the tools, opportunities, and platforms they need to thrive. Our members include entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders who are reshaping industries and driving South Africa’s economy forward

Our Mandate

Inspire Advocate, Empower, Develop, Connect

At the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWA), we are driven by a bold vision: to be the platform for the inspiration and empowerment of women. For over 40 years, we have championed gender transformation, fostering a united movement of women who lead, innovate, and uplift. Our mandate is built on five key pillars:

We spotlight trailblazers through awards like BWOYA and RBWOYA, showcasing women who redefine leadership and inspire generations.

From mentorship to bursaries and skills development, we provide the tools for women to excel in business and beyond.

Through research like the Women in Leadership Census and policy engagement, we challenge barriers and demand equitable representation.

Our national network fosters collaboration, mentorship, and opportunities—because together, we are unstoppable.
